What's new in Ubuntu 13.04
|
Conclusion
As far as the interface, 13.04 is more a "consolidation" release than a "work in progress," as were previous versions with their radical changes to desktops and experimental interfaces. Ubuntu is now a major contender in the operating system market and must prove its worth to third-party software vendors. In consequence, on the surface, most of the effort has gone into stabilizing Unity, Dash, and the HUD. Raring seems to be a more robust and less error-prone system, ready to compete with Mac OS X and Windows platforms.
With the desktop user interface more or less under control, the developers are now working hard on the back end, creating interfaces with different versions of Ubuntu that work on other form factors; therefore, although not too exciting on the surface, 13.04 is the first step toward a brand new and exciting Ubuntu.
